The Puntland Security Force (PSF) has taken on the daunting task of distributing water supplies to drought stricken communities across six separate provinces in the Puntland regional state of Somalia.
The provinces of Mudug, Nugal, Sool, Bari, Haylan and Karkar saw over 1,700 water tankers distributed to the most drought affected areas of Puntland and as a result where able to assist the most drought stricken segments of the population in remote areas of Puntland.
Somalia has been enduring a devastating drought over the past several months, which has affected both livestock and the environment, with the Puntland region amongst the worst hit areas in the country.
The efforts by the PSF has ushered in the most successful drought relief operation carried out by a non-administrative entity within Somalia in recent years.
In the past, the PSF have carried out similar humanitarian work on behalf of the local populace and therefore can be attributed to why the unit remains widely popular in Puntland.
