The armed group Al Shabaab took credit for a series of bombings overnight that rocked the Somali capital Mogadishu.

The bomb attacks are said to have targeted government troops and allied militias in multiple districts across Mogadishu.

The first blast occurred in the Howlwadaag district of Mogadishu, when insurgents launched an assault on a police station, leaving one police officer wounded.

A similiar attack occurred shortly afterwards in the vicinity of Howlwadaag, targeting a contingent of Somali government troops, however the casualties from that bomb attack remains unclear.

Al Shabaab fighters carried out another string of bombings in the volatile Wardhigleey district. The attacks both said to have targeted government troops. The blasts are said to have occurred in the neighborhoods of Mohamud Harbi and Furayaasha.

The four separate attacks that spanned the districts of Howlwadaag and Wardhigleey are said to be grenade attacks according to security sources that spoke with Halgan Media on condition of anonymity.

The insurgents carried out similar bombings last night in the districts of Karaan, Dayniile and Yaqshiid. Scores of government troops and allied militias are confirmed to have been killed or wounded in grenade attacks and smalls arms fire.

The Al Aqaeda affiliated Militant group Al Shabaab took credit for these latest rounds of attacks in Mogadishu. This comes at a time in which the capital city has been hit with an uptick in bombings targeting government officials.
