Unknown assailants carried out an attack targeting an Army base in the town of Menti in the volatile Oromo region of Ethiopia.
The culprits reportedly hurled a hand grenade at the Army base according to the Oromo branch of BBC News. The subsequent explosion from the grenade left one soldier dead and three others wounded.
The troops began indiscriminately opening fire following the blast, which forced bystanders to flee. The assailants that carried out the attack on the army base fled shortly afterwards. There identies and motives still remain unknown.
According to the Oromo branch of BBC News, this is the third attack on security forces in the Oromo region, within the past week. No group has claimed responsibility for any of these attacks.
