Local contacts have informed the Halgan Media service desk an Ethiopian military convoy struck a roadside bomb in southern Somalia. The blast occurred on the dirt road connecting the towns of Burhakaba and Baydhabo in Bay province.
According to locals, multiple Ethiopian military convoys withdrew from the town of Burhakaba and in route to the city of Baydhabo when the blast occurred. The impact of the bomb blast engulfed one of the Ethiopian military convoys in flames.
The troops in the remaining military convoys began subsequently firing eradicly following the blast. Once the smoke cleared the bodies of three Ethiopian soldiers where spotted laying in a pool of blood, next to a burned out Army convoy.
Following the blast the Ethiopian troops cordoned off the area til reinforcements arrived. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Ethiopian troops and other Foreign forces operating in volatile southern Somalia regularly fall pray to attacks from the militant group Al Shabaab, which controls large swaths of territory in southern Somalia.
