Confirmed reports received from the Ogaden reveal clashes erupted earlier today near the Somali border town of Alaale in Shiniile province, commonly referred to as Sitti.
The skirmishes where sparked as a result of a cross border raid carried out by Paramilitaries from the neighboring Afar regional state. Local contacts reveal the Afar paramilitary forces besieged the village of Cobole, situated near the border town of Alaale.
The cross border raid was followed by a hail of bullets. Eyewitnesses that spoke with Halgan Media on condition of anonymity reveal the Afar paramilitaries began indiscriminately opening fire on everything in sight, including women and children.
Residents reveal the paramilitaries withdrew following the assault on the village of Cobole and where spotted afterwards heading towards the Afar regional state.
However, casualties remain hard to determine at the moment. Cellular service in the area has been on and off over the past few hours, which is an unfortunate norm in such a sparsely populated rural area such as Cobole.
