Ethiopian troops on patrol in southern Somalia encountered a series of blasts followed by an ambush, sources reveal.

The troops where traveling on the volatile road connecting the towns of Bardaale and Yurkud upon encountering three roadside bombs. Sources reveal the blasts where followed by a hail of bullets from gun wielding militants lurking near by.

The Ethiopian troops returned fire according to sources but where overwhelmed by the barrage of gunfire from militants. Therefore forcing the Ethiopian troops to retreat in the midst of the clashes according to sources.

The number of casualties from the clashes remain unknown for the time being. However the Al Qaeda affiliated armed group Al Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement released on the pro militant website dubbed Somali Memo. 

This latest encounter between Militants and Ethiopian troops comes just a week after a similar incident occurred in the southwest of the country. The armed group Al Shabaab routinely carries out attacks targeting Foreign troops in Somalia, which has intensified in recent weeks as more Ethiopian troops flood into Somalia.
