A wave of unidentified aircraft was hovering over Mogadishu in the midst of the night, residents say. The planes where spotted circling over neighborhoods in the following districts of Huriwaa, Dayniile, Howlwadag and Hodan.
Security sources that spoke with Halgan Media correspondents based in the Somali capital confirmed the sightings of the aircraft and reveal the aircraft is believed to be an AC-130 gunships. However its not clear why the aircraft was hovering over Mogadishu, particularly in the middle of the night.
Mogadishu has been under tight security and massive surveillance in recent years. Movement in the city has been crippled due to Army checkpoints on nearly every block. The situation in the city has made locals even more paranoid due to the intricate web of spies operating in the city.
Therefore, the latest overnight sounds of large aircraft hoovering over densely populated neighborhoods is a cause for concern that many residents share. The Halgan Media service desk has reached out to local officials for clarity on recent developments but officals have not returned our calls.
