Several Al Shabaab fighters armed with small arms fire attacked a Ugandan military base overnight in the rural town of Maryan Gubaay in Somalia’s Lower Shabelle province.
The insurgents reportedly launched a hit run attack targeting the military base housing foreign troops from Uganda, which is common in the area as Al Shabaab continues to wage their guerrilla war.
The exact details of the attack are sketchy at the moment but whats for sure is that this attack on the Ugandan military base comes after a similar attack left one Ugandan soldier dead in the town of Qoryooleey following an ambush last week targeting Ugandan military contingents that where on a routine foot patrol.
The government of Uganda currently has several thousand troops deployed in Somalia fighting on behalf of America’s never ending global war on terror and therefore routinely come under attack from Somali insurgents from the Al Aqaeada affiliated armed group Al Shabaab.
