The rape and murder of a young pregnant women in central Somalia has sparked public roar and widespread anger from Somalis both at home and in the diaspora.

The body of the women whose been identified as Ubah Mohamed, was discovered on the outskirts of the city of Caabudwaaq in Galgaduud province.

Police where tipped off about the body by local pastoralists who came across the deceased women’s remains early this morning.

A prelimary autopsy revealed the young women had been raped and murdered. The victim was also three months pregnant.

One individual has been arrested on suspicion of carrying out the gruesome attack and is currently in police custody.

It’s not clear at the moment wheater the young woman was lured by the suspect or unexpectedly came face to face with the attacker prior to the incident.

Sexual violence in Somalia, targeting women and children has been on the rise in recent months, with a number of high profile cases making headlines across the country.
