Confirmed reports received from Sitti province reveal heavily armed Militias from the neighboring Afar Regional State launched a cross border raid yesterday targeting the border town of Danlaheylay.

Eyewitnesses in the town that spoke with Halgan Media on anonymity reveal the militias launched a brazen assault on the town mid afternoon, which left 4 Somalis wounded. An array of small arms fire where used during the onslaught per sources. Local contacts have confirmed the victims are currently being treated at a makeshift medical clinic in the town.

Following the attack, the Afar Militants withdrew from the town but still remain stationed less than 20 kilometers away according to locals. The Somali border town of Danlaheylay like many other civilian populated areas in Sitti province have been besieged by Afar Militants for the past few months. Scores have been killed, with many more displaced.

The administration overseeing the Somali Regional State (Ogaden) based in the capital Jigjiga is yet to address, let alone take concrete action to prevent the indiscriminate attacks  against civilians in Sitti province. The dire calls for help by the locals in Sitti province has fallen on deaf ears, as the Criminal regime in Jigjiga continues to turn a blind eye.

We will keep you updated with the latest developments from the region.
