A cargo plane crash landed at an airstrip manned by Ethiopian troops in the city of Bardheere in Somalia’s Gedo province.

According to local media, the plane was registered to a Kenyan based airliner known as Buff Air and departed Aden Cadde International airport in Mogadishu prior to making its way to the city of Bardheere.

Upon entering the airspace over Gedo province, the plane attempted to make a landing on the runway in Bardheere, when it apparently veered off the runway.

Its not clear what caused the plane to veer and crash but local officials confirm there where no injuries that resulted from the clash.

However, the local officials didn’t mention what or who the plane was transferring to Bardheere, which raised eyebrows with large segments of the public.

The city of Bardheere situated in Gedo province hosts a large Ethiopian base, with troops numbering in the thousands. The Ethiopian military base in Bardheere is the largest in Gedo province.

The Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) maintains similar military bases in the nearby districts of Luuq and Garbahaaray, with tens of thousands of troops deployed across war torn Somalia under the guise of America’s war on terror.
