Confirmed reports received by Halgan Media reveal fierce clashes have erupted over the past 24 hours in the town of Ma’ayso in Shiniile province.

Local contacts based in the Ogaden reveal Oromo militia’s attacked Somali pastoralists in the border town of Ma’ayso in attempt to loot livestock. Subsequent clashes erupted between both sides, leaving one Oromo militiaman dead.

Following the clashes, Ethiopian troops arrived in the vicinity of the town and met with Somali elders. Ethiopian military contingents at the scene than demanded the elders hand over the Somali pastoralist who was responsible for the death of the Oromo militiaman. The Somali elders immediately refused the request of the Ethiopian troops, after it was revealed the pastoralist would be transferred to the authorities in the neighboring Oromo regional state.

After the disagreement between the elders and Ethiopian soldiers. The very same Ethiopian military contingents attempted to apprehend the Somali pastoralist by force. According to local contacts, civilians in the vicinity of the town took up arms against the troops, sparking a bloody battle in the vicinity of the town.
