The Somali-ISIS faction claimed responsibility for an attack on a checkpoint manned by government troops in the capital Mogadishu according to a statement published online.

The attack, which reportedly took place on the 7th of August in the Towfiiq neighborhood in Mogadishu left one soldier dead and two more wounded.

ISIS have been operating in Somalia since late 2015 and are believed to have hundreds of militants in Somalia, which include Foreign fighters in there ranks.

The Somali-ISIS faction is led by British-Somali cleric Abdulkadir Mumin, who defected from Al Shabaab in 2015 and pledged allegiance to Abubakar Al-Bagdaadi soon afterwards.

Since the start of there insurgency in Somalia, the Daesh militants have mainly been secluded to Bari province in Northern Somalia but the recent attack in Mogadishu might be a clear indication of there operations across Somalia.
