Confirmed reports reaching the Halgan Media service desk reveal the Ethiopian Army has withdrawn from the city of Jigjiga in Fafaan province.
This latest move comes as violence and utter chaos plagued the city of Jigjiga for the past 48 hours. According to eyewitnesses the havoc erupted after the miniority Amhara population residing as settlers in neighborhood five and neighborhood six in Jigjiga began xenophobic attacks on Somalis. The situation became worse when the Ethiopian Army took part in the violence by pillaging Somali shops and using live ammunition on the indigenous Somali population.
As the sun settled yesterday, the commotion came to an end after the Regional President Mustafa Omar (Cagjar) ordered the Ethiopian military withdraw from the city of Jigjiga.
By the time the Ethiopian troops withdrew from the city, dozens of Somalis where wounded with a member of the Liyuu Police reportedly killed and other members of the Liyuu Police paramilitary force sustaining injuries, as a result of the clashes.
Residents in the city of Jigjiga this morning have informed Halgan Media that there was a complete withdrawal of Ethiopian troops from the city overnight. A joint unit of the Liyuu Police and local police officers hailing from the occupied Somali territory (Ogaden) are currently patrolling the city streets.
We will keep you updated with the latest developments and updates from the region.
