A secret US delegation consisting of officials from the Pentagon, AFRICOM and State Department arrived in an unannounced trip to the capital Mogadishu, in which they held a closed door meeting with Somalia’s president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo.

The closed door meeting confirmed to have taken place in a secure compound on the airport grounds, just adjacent to the heavily fortified Halane compound, which houses Foreign diplomats and several Western embassies.

Security sources, familiar with the matter that spoke to Halgan Media on condition of anonymity reveal US ambassador Donald Yamamoto was in attendance during the encounter and subsequent meeting between Somali president Farmaajo and the visiting US delegation.

The arrival of the high profile US delegation to Somalia comes just 48 hours after an American soldier was critically wounded in a suicide bombing carried out by the Al Aqaeda linked armed group Al Shabaab in the volatile Jubba Valley, situated in the south of the country.

The US embassy in Mogadishu is yet address the arrival of the senior US delegation to the war torn country, which has sparked widespread suspicion with Somalis at home and those abroad in the diaspora.
