Confirmed reports received from the Ogaden reveal fierce clashes have erupted near the town of Ma’aayso in Shiniile province between local Somalis and Oromo militia’s that launched a brazen attack on a rural village 8 kilometers away from the town.
According to local contacts the incident occurred in the village of Kurfaa. Oromo militia’s launched an onslaught targeting pastoralists in the vicinity of the village. Subsequently fierce clashes ensued as both sides exchanged heavy gunfire, leading to the deaths of four Somalis and two others wounded.
The area surrounding the border town of Ma’aayso has been a flashpoint for clashes between local Somalis and Oromo militia’s hailing from the neighboring Oromo regional state. As fighting has intensified over the past few weeks. Halgan media has been able to obtain the names of the deceased as well as the wounded, which is listed below.
