Suspected militants hurled a hand grenade at a cafe in Somalia’s port city of Kismaayo. The subsequent blast led to the deaths of two people, with more than a dozen wounded.

The bombing occurred tonight in the city center. Shortly after the blast security forces arrived on the scene and carried away the dead and wounded victims.

Local residents reveal the blast was followed by a massive mobilization of security forces in key junctions throughout the city of Kismaayo.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack but it’s widely local Jihadists perpetrated the heinous attack. Al Qaeda affiliated militant group Al Shabaab are notorious for carrying out brazen acts of terror throughout the country.

Local authorities are yet to address the loss of civilian lives or the motives behind such a gruesome act of terror targeting civilians at restaurant. Tonight’s attack comes just 24 hours after US ambassador Donald Yamamoto and US General Stephen Townsend where in the port city meeting with local officials.
