Liyuu Police paramilitaries stormed a home overnight in the town of Shilaabo in Qorahay province and subsequently arrested a young man. Local contacts have identified the victim as Nuur Abdi Budul.

Halgan Media correspondents based in the town of Shilaabo reveal the arrest of Nuur Abdi Budul was unprovoked and without cause. Following his illegal detainment, the victim was transferred to a Liyuu Police paramilitary outpost within the town of Shilaabo and is still being held under arbitrary detention.

However in recent weeks, human rights abuses in the Ogaden have increased in frequency. There have been multiple incidents of arrests targeting civilians and in some cases violent assaults and beatings. These crimes are all being perpetrated with immunity by the notorious Liyuu Police paramilitary force.

It’s widely believed that the Somali Regional administration based in the capital Jigjiga is playing a hand in the current human rights abuses taking place in the region. The utter silence from president Mustafa Omar (Cagjar) in regards to these abuses taking place in the Ogaden is viewed by many as a sign of complicity.
