Confirmed reports received from the Ogaden reveal the Liyuu Police militia have taken over security operations for the city of Jigjiga in Fafaan province.
According to a statement from General Mohamed Abdi Mawsar, a high ranking military official from the notorious Paramilitary militia (Liyuu Police), the Liyuu police will oversee security in the city as well as man every entrance leading in and out the city. Residents in Jigjiga have informed Halgan Media that Liyuu Police paramilitaries where spotted all across the city last night and into this morning as well.
It’s not clear how long the Liyuu Police will continue to hold a grip over the city of Jigjiga but what is known so far is that there’s been a level of misunderstanding between the Regional administration led by Mustafa Omar (Cagjar) and Liyuu Police leadership, which continues to intensify. Many in the Liyuu Police leadership are wary of Mustafa Omar (Cagjar) knowing Mustafa was selected president of the occupied Somali territory following the ouster of the tresanous war criminal Abdi Iley, who was a key figure of the Liyuu Police himself at one point.
For the Liyuu Police to take over security in Jigjiga is a shock to many. Prior to being (s)elected president Mustafa Omar (Cagjar) was a staunch critic of the Liyuu Police for there role in committing war crimes and human rights violations in Ogaden. Yet today the notorious Liyuu Police militia are strolling into the Ogaden capital once again and doing as they please.
Halgan Media has attempted to contact the office of Mustafa Omar (Cagjar) regarding these latest developments but are yet to get a response.
We will keep you updated with the latest developments and updates from the region.
