A massive movement of Liyuu Police paramilitary forces has been reported across the capital Jigjiga this morning. Local residents that spoke with Halgan Media on anonymity reveal the Paramilitary build up came as a surprise. The troops where spotted at key intersections, major roads, market places and all entrances leading in and out of the city.
Its not clear what lead to the massive deployment of troops in the city, but many residents have informed the Halgan Media service desk that the troop build up in Jigjiga is like nothing they’ve seen before. Paramilitary units traveling in multiple convoy’s could be seen in every neighborhood.
An even stronger troop presence was spotted in the “Xafaada 5aad” neighborhood, which is home to a small group of minority settlers hailing from the Amhara ethnic group.
The troop build up in Jigjiga coincides with the arrival of the chairman for the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF), Abdirahman Mahdi whose expected to arrive in the city later today. The Halgan Media service desk has reached out to the Somali regional state (Ogaden) for comment but are yet to respond to our inquires.
We will keep you updated with the latest developments from the region.
