A series of fierce clashes and skirmishes erupted across Ethiopia within the past 24 hours, which left scores of people dead according to confirmed reports.

A vehicle traveling through the Southern portion of the Afar Regional State, which was in route to the city of Mekeele in the Tigray region came under fire by unknown assailants during an ambush. The vehicle was reportedly carrying football players. The incident left one person dead and four others wounded. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Six people where killed as a result of communal violence on the border between the Benshangul Gumuz Regional State and the Amhara Regional State. Warring militias from both sides engaged in a bitter firefight, which left half a dozen people dead. The Spokesperson for the Benshangul Gumuz Regional Statement released a statement shortly after the clashes revealing troops have been deployed to the area to quell the violence.

A similar incident occurred in the Gambella region of Western Ethiopia, which shares a border with volatile war torn South Sudan. According to reports coming out of the region, suspected Rebels hailing from the SPLM where engaged in skirmishes with Tribal militia men in the border area. Tit for tat skirmishes and communal clashes of this caliber our common place between the neighboring communities.

SPLM Rebels have been waging an armed campaign for the past 6 years in a bid to topple the South Sudanese government based in the capital Jubba. The SPLM Rebels where formerly based in the Gambella region of western Ethiopia and where receiving logistics and arms from the TPLF Junta during the past few years, which has increased instability and lawlessness in the region. Weather the current Government of Ethiopia under Abiy Ahmed engages of the arming rebels in South Sudan just like his predecessor still remains a mystery.
