A Somali national identified as Abdirashid Jama was shot dead by unknown this past Monday in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

According to the Minneapolis police department, around 4:30PM (16:30) officers responded to reports of gunfire on the 100 block of East 22nd street. Upon arriving at the scene they found the lifeless body of a man suffering from multiple gun shot wounds.

The victim was immediately taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center, where his immediate kin where contacted. The deceased individual was identified by family members as Abdirashid Jama from South Minneapolis.

According to a preliminary investigation conducted by the Minneapolis police department, the victim saw two people breaking into his car. He than confronted them and chased them a short distance when one of the suspects turned around and shot him twice.

Thr suspects immediately ran off and escaped on foot. Abdirashid is said to have suffered to gunshot wounds to the upper torso according to the Minneapolis police department. The identities of the shooters remains unknown at the moment.

Minneapolis has been suffering from an uptick in Gun crime in recent months, with the city being plagued by rampant shootings and armed robberies.

The uptick in crime comes at a time when Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey is planning to defund the police in wake of the gruesome police killing of George Floyd, which sparked global outrage.
