Al Shabaab fighters carried out two separate attacks on Foreign troops in occupied southern Somalia, with both incidents taking place in the volatile Lower Shabelle province.
An intense barrage of mortar rounds reigned down on a Burundian military base in the Ceelasha Biyaha district just outside Mogadishu in the nearby Lower Shabelle province.
Local residents reveal the overnight shelling by insurgents, led to the Burundian troops returning fire indiscriminately in an attempt to deter an Al Shabaab assault on the AU military compound.
The government of Burundi is yet to address the late night encounter targeting there troops. However the armed group Al Shabaab did claim responsibility for the attack in a statement published online.
On a similar note, Foreign troops from Uganda where attacked while on patrol in the town of Shalaanbood near the coastal city of Marka in the Lower Shabelle province.
A military convoy carrying Ugandan troops struck a roadside bomb while on a routine patrol in Shalaanbood town. The vehicle was badly damaged in the blast. Casualties from the attack are unknown.
The Al Aqaeda affiliated armed group Al Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack. The roadside bomb blast targeting the Ugandans comes just a mere after week after a new batch of 1,800 Ugandan troops where deployed to Somalia.
