Traditional Elders Hold A Meeting In Jigjiga

Clan elders hailing from Shiniile province in the Ogaden held a meeting and subsequent press conference in the city of Jigjiga in Fafaan.

The meeting was attended by both Traditional elders and Tribal chiefs hailing from the Western part of Ogaden in Shiniile province, in which they discussed the reoccurring violent clashes on the disputed border between the Afar Regional State and Somali Regional State (Ogaden)

For all purposes the meeting was held to find a solution to the lingering problem which has torn the once coexisting neighbors  (Somali and Afar) into warring communities. The elders called on the Federal Government of Ethiopia to take part in helping to resolve this issue, in which three Somali inhabited towns where given (annexed) to the Afar Regional State.

To top it off the Clan elders called on the administration for Somali Regional State (Ogaden) to speak out about the issue surrounding the Somali towns occupied by the neighboring Afar Regional State. The elders also vowed to maintain peace by any means necessary and called on the neighboring Afar Regional State to do the same as well.

In 2014 the TPLF Junta in full collaboration with there henchmen Abdi Iley, the former puppet president of the Ogaden (Somali Regional State) gave three major towns to the neighboring Afar Regional State without the approval or consent of the indigenous Somali inhabitants. Armed clashes and skirmishes between the indigenous Somali population and occupying Afar paramilitaries has been plaguing the area ever since.

We will keep you updated with the latest developments and updates from the region.
