Confirmed reports reaching the Halgan Media service desk reveal Ethiopian commanders stationed in the Western edge of Sitti province held a meeting with traditional elders. The meeting took place in the Somali border town of Danlaheylay, which is adjacent to the neighboring Afar regional state.
Sources that took part in the gathering informed the Halgan Media service desk, the meeting was agreed upon both sides prior to the encounter. A new contingent of Ethiopian troops was deployed to an outpost near the Somali border town of Danlaheylay, replacing the former contingent.
The new commanders and there troops held talks with locals, which was headed by traditional elders. Sources reveal the Ethiopian commanders and the traditional elders came to a mutual understanding on various topics, including security.
The prior Ethiopian military contingent deployed near the Somali border town of Danlaheylay was inefficient and even empowered violent militias from the neighboring Afar regional state to terrorize Somalis in the border region. The Somali border town of Danlaheylay has been one of the hardest hit areas due to relentless cross border raids in recent months.
Hundred have been killed, while thousands displaced. Majority of these victims are currently languishing in makeshift IDP camps on the volatile Somali-Afar border region. Most lack adequate access to basic necessities, which makes the situation even more dire.
We will keep you updated with the latest developments from the region.
