Simultaneous attacks targeting two separate foreign military bases in Somalia took place in the Lower Jubba province.
The coordinated raids targeted two Kenyan military bases in the towns of Afmadow and Qoqaani, which also house a small contingent of Somali security forces.
Al Shabaab fighters reportedly launched an assault on both compounds, sparking clashes with Kenyan troops. The number of casualties remains unknown at the moment as the clashes took place during the midst of the night.
Kenyan troops deployed in Somalia regularly fall victim to Al Shabaab, following there ill-fated of invasion of Somalia a decade ago, with thousands of Kenyan troops spread out across the Jubba Valley and neighboring Gedo province.
