Al Shabaab fighters carried out two separate attacks targeting Kenyan military bases in the Lower Jubba province of Somalia during the midst of the night.

Insurgents reportedly shelled a Kenyan military base overnight in the town of Hoosingoow. Following the shelling targeting the Kenyan military base, the Al Shabaab fighters launched a ground assault on the compound sparking fierce clashes between insurgents and Kenyan troops.

The exact number of Kenyan troops killed in the shelling and subsequent clashes is unknown but what is confirmed is that smoke was spotted billowing over the skies following the encounter. On a similiar note, Al Shabaab fighters launched an attack on a Kenyan military base in the town of Cabdalla Biroole, which sits outside the coastal city of Kismaayo.

The Kenyan military and there installations (bases) in Somalia routinly come under Al Shabaab attack, which has been non-stop since Kenya’s invasion of Somalia in 2011 and the subsequent occupation that followed which continues til this day.
