Al Shabaab fighters carried out an ambush targeting foreign troops from Uganda in the town of Qoryooleey in the Lower Shabelle province of Somalia.
The Ugandan troops where on a routine foot patrol in the vicinity of Qoryooleey when they sustained heavy fire from insurgents, leaving one member of the Ugandan National Defense Force (UNDF) dead.
The town of Qoryooleey situated deep inside the volatile Lower Shabelle province of Somalia has been under the control of foreign forces since March 2014.
Despite being ousted from the town of Qoryooleey seven years ago, Al Shabaab routinely carries out attacks on Ugandan troops in the town and its environs.
Uganda currently has an estimated 8,000 troops deployed in Somalia fighting on behalf of America’s global war on terror and as a result routinely suffer losses at the hands of Al Aqaeda linked insurgents.
