Bandits vandalized a mosque inside a local high school in the city of Jigjiga in the Ogaden region. Islamaphobic writing and pictures of crosses where found marked all over the walls of a mosque.
Its not clear how the culprits gained access to the mosque but the place of warship was completely desecrated. Copies of the Holy Quran where found on the floor, while crosses littered the halls.
Its widely believed the xenophobic attack was carried out by right wing settlers who hail from the minority Amharic community. The desecration of a holy place such as Mosque sparked anger across the Ogaden, particularly in the capital Jigjiga.
Residents in the city of Jigjiga have informed the Halgan Media service desk a heavy police presence on the streets in order to deter possible retaliatory attacks from Somalis targeting settlers from the minority Amhara community that reside in the Xafaada 4aad and Xafaada 5aad neighborhoods.
