Clashes erupted in Ethiopia’s volatile Oromo region following a clash between local youth and police according to a report published on the Amharic branch of VOA news.

VOA’s Amharic service reveals the violent clashes began in the town Ejaji in the West Shoa zone during the Kanazegelila celebration, which is an Orthodox Christian festival.

Four policemen and two youth were wounded during the clashes when youth refused to disperse following celebrations, which forced police to use excessive force – live bullets to be exact.

Authorities in the Oromo regional state have not commented on the incident according to the Amahric branch of VOA news.

The Oromo regional state of Ethiopia has been plagued by unprecedented non state actors such as as paramilitaries, rogue militias and armed youth groups that roam wild.
