US AFRICOM, which oversees US military operations in Africa has claimed responsibility for a drone strike in Somalia. The drone strike reportedly took place targeting the Al Shabaab stronghold of Jilib in the Jubba Valley.

The Americans claimed killing two militants in the strike carried out by US predator drones. The town of Jilib remains the de facto capital of Al Shabaab, therefore a prime target for US drones. Anyone and anything in that area is a prime target for the US, including women and children.

An uprecedented uptick in US drone strikes has rocked Somali since the Trump administration came to power. As the US carried more drone strikes in the past three years, than all the previous years combined.

The shadow war being waged in Somalia by US drones remains a secretive conflict as limited information is provided in the conflict. The US has a notorious reputation for downplaying civilian casualties and often times blatantly lying to cover up there tracks.

It was just recently in 2019, when Amnesty International released a damming investigative report implicating the US for commiting War Crimes and Crimes against humanity in Somalia as a result of there secretive drone war ravaging the country under the guise of the War on Terror.
