Following the dissolving of the Ginbot 7 Rebel movement, six separate opposition parties formed a new party to join the country’s highly polarized political climate. This is considered to be a major development for the nation and its volatile political arena.

The party is named Citizens for Social Justice. The leading founders are former rebel leaders Andargachew Tsige and Berhanu Nega. Many analysts view the new party as a centralized movement, hellbent on challenging the current OPDO Junta and other ethno-nationalist parties vying for elections in 2020 as various parties and opposition groups are forming new alliances to bolster there chances at the polls.

To the contrary many Ethiopian experts weather in the country or exiled in the Diaspora believe that Ethiopia is simply not ready for elections. The nation is plagued with over three million IDP’s, lawlessness and ethnic violence is rampant throughout the country. It’s gotten to a point in which the Ethiopian Government had to postpone the National census due to growing instability.

We will keep you updated with the latest developments from the region.
