AMISOM forces struck a roadside bomb overnight while on patrol in the volatile Lower Shabelle province of Somalia. Local contacts reveal the blast targeting the Foreign forces occured shortly after Maqrib prayers.
Per sources – The AMISOM convoy was traveling through the village of Golweyn, which is situated on the outskirts of the coastal city of Marka. While on routine patrol, the military convoy struck a roadside bomb hidden in the dirt road.
The convoy sustained damage from the blast. However, the casualties remain unclear at the moment. Local contacts have identified the Foreign troops as a contingent of Ugandan soldiers operating under the pseudo AMISOM mandate.
The African Union and its sponsoners, the US and UN are yet to comment on this incident. The Al Qaeda affiliated Militant group Al Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement published online.
