Mogadishu (Halgan Media) – A cargo plane crash landed at the Ugaas Khalif airport in the city of Beledweyne in Central Somalia, leaving three people wounded.
Local media reports stated, the cargo plane was transferring supplies to flood victims in the city of Beledweyne prior to crashing at the airstrip.
The pilot and both of the crew members on board miraculously survived the initial crash and the subsequent fire that engulfed the plane, despite suffering minor wounds.
However, aviation officials from Somalia’s autonomous Hirshabelle regional state that spoke with Halgan Media on condition of anonymity reveal the plane was in fact transferring supplies to Djiboutian troops based in the city of Beledweyne.
Sources confirm the cargo plane crash landed as a result of a faulty wheel, which forced the plane to veer off the run way causing the plane and the logistical supplies on board to be engulfed in flames.
The cargo plane is said to have made routine trips in the past transferring supplies to Djiboutian troops in central Somalia under the AMISOM mandate, according to aviation sources.
Planes are the only way to get supplies to the Djiboutian troops and other allied Foreign forces in Somalia knowing large swaths of territory in the country are under the control of the armed group Al Shabaab.
Djibouti is one of several African nations with troops deployed in Somalia under the US backed AMISOM mandate. The Djiboutian troops maintain large military bases in the cities of Beledweyne and Jalalaqsi in central Somalia.
An estimated 1,800 Djiboutian troops are deployed in Somalia fighting America’s war on terror, which is all being funded by US tax dollars.
