Confirmed reports received from the Ogaden reveal Militants from the neighboring Afar regional state launched a cross border raid targeting the Somali border town of Masulo in Sitti province, leaving one person dead. Local contacts that spoke on anonymity have informed the Halgan Media service desk the cross border raid occurred early this morning.
Contacts based in the volatile Somali border region adjacent to the neighboring Afar regional state have identified the victim as Cisman Ciilmi. Eyewitness reveal Paramilitary forces and allied militias laucnhed an assault on the border town and indiscriminately opened fire on everything in sight. The hail of bullets struck one local pastoralist hailing from the town of Masulu that bled out on the scene and died instantly.
Since the start of 2019 over 300 Somalis have been killed on Ogaden-Afar border region. Most of the victims tend to be rural pastoralist. The federal government of Ethiopia under the leadership of prime minster Abiy Ahmed have continuously turned a blind eye to these atrocities. Thousands have been displaced, with cross border raids and extrajudicial killings becoming a norm for Somalis at the hands of violent paramilitaries hailing from the Afar regional state.
Whats more disturbing is the Somali regional state (Ogaden) based in the capital Jigjiga have fallen on death ears as there constituents who are fellow Somalis are massacred in droves. The Halgan Media service desk has reached out to officials in Jigjiga but ares still yet to respond to our inquires regarding the latest string of killings in the border region.
