Liyuu Police paramilitaries arrested 2o tribal elders in the city of Wardheer in Doolo province. Local residents that reached out to the Halgan Media service desk confirmed the incident occurred this past Friday. The series of arrest occurred mid afternoon as the Liyuu Police paramilitary force conducted a sweep of the city targeting the prominent tribal elders.

The arrest of the elders was in response to a killing that occurred in the nearby town of Neef-Kuceelie on the 9th of January. Unknown assailants gunned down a civilian identified as Yusuf Maxamed as a result of a heated clan dispute which has plagued Doolo province over the past few months. In response local authorities overseeing Doolo province summoned the Liyuu Police paramilitaries to arrest the elders under the pretext that the alleged gun men hailed from there clan.

Local contacts have been to obtain the names of 3 out of the 20 tribal elders under arbitrary detention, which are listed below.

  • Duraan Cabdullahi
  • Cisman Aw Dubad
  • Axmed Liilan

Its not confirmed weather the culprit who carried out the gruesome killing in Neef- Uceeliye hails from the same clan as the elders that where recently arrested in Wardheer but remains for certain is that the elders are currently under arbitrary detention, whose well being remains unknown. The governor of Doolo province, Cabdulle Cabdinasir has a long criminal record of committing human rights violations in the Ogaden. Its widely reported that the clan violence and tit for tat human rights violations taking place in there region are conducted with his full knowledge.

Reliable sources with inside access to Cabdulle Cabdinasir’s inner working have revealed the Governor of Doolo province is engaged in dirty clan politics and is empowering clan rivalries in the province in a bid to strengthen his control over the region. Doolo remains a province where Cabdulle Cabdinasir is despised for his criminal past and his ties to the former Junta led by the notorious Cabdi Ileey.
