A blast from an explosive device attached to a vehicle rocked the city of Sanja in Ethiopia’s volatile Gondar province. A white Toyota pick up truck was engulfed in flames at a busy intersection as the vehicle was detonated by a remote controlled device.

Local media reports reveal around mid afternoon a white Toyota pickup truck up exploded in the middle of a traffic at a busy intersection in the city of Sanja in Gondar province of the Amhara region. One person was said to be driving the vehicle at the time and died instantly from the bomb blast.

Scores more where wounded as shrapnel from the blast struck pedestrians in the vicinity of the blast. The identity of the individual driving the vehicle has still not been released. The motives behind the targeted killing and bombing remains a mystery at the moment.

No group has claimed responsibility for the latest bombing. Ethiopia’s volatile Amhara region has been the scene of unrest, organized crime and human trafficking in recent months. The latest bombing in Gondar province further proves how the security situation in the region continues to deteriorate.
