Authorities in the occupied NFD region seized nearly 2 million shillings worth of pure sugar in the occupied NFD region. Security forces reportedly conducted raids in Wajir county and came across the contraband.

While addressing the local media, Deputy County Commissioner Elvis Korir accused local criminal syndicates of dealing in the illegal trade. However the commissioner did not name those criminal syndicates nor did he reveal the contraband was smuggled.

The Kenyan occupied Somali territory, commonly referred to as the NFD region has been a hub for numerous illicit trades and criminal activity. The bulk of these crimes are perpetrated by Non Somalis (Kenyan settlers) and KDF contingents based in the occupied NFD region.

The Kenyan government maintains a heavy troop presence in neighboring Somalia under the guise of the US led war on terror. However the Kenyan Defense Forces (KDF) have been previously implicated for looting charcoal, sugar and other materials.
