The Halgan Media service desk will began a new series of reports covering conflict related developments in Somalia as of 29/1/2019. The reports will be updated on a 24 hour basis.

Confirmed reports reveal a series of Al Shabaab attacks and ambushes occurred in the following provinces of Gedo, Shabellaha Hoose and the capital  Mogadishu.

Gedo Province 29/1/2020

Al Shabaab Militants claimed responsibility for an ambush targeting Somali government troops outside the Buurdhuubo district in Gedo province.

The ambush was reportedly followed by an ensuing gun battle, which lead to the death of a commander from the Somali National Army (SNA) identified as Bashir Waroow.

The militants also claim to have seized weapons, ammunition and logistical equipment from the government forces following the clashes.

The Somali government did not yet comment on this latest incident. Halgan Media correspondents based in Mogadishu reached out to the Ministry of Information (MOI) for confirmation but have still not gotten a response.

Shabellaha Hoose Province 29/1/2020

Heavily armed Al Shabaab militants launched an assault targeting Government forces in the farming village of Sabiid situated in Shabellaha Hoose also known as the Lower Shabelle province.

According to a statement published on the pro militant website dubbed Somali Memo, US trained Somali special forces came under small arms fire at a military outpost in the village of Sabiid, situated only 30 kilometers away from the capital Mogadishu. The militants claimed to have killed one soldier in the ambush.

The Somali government has not addressed this latest attack on there forces, nor have they even attempted to debunk the claims made by Al Shabaab.

Mogadishu 29/1/2020

Sources in Mogadishu have informed the Halgan Media service desk that unknown assailants hurled a grenade at the home of a police commander tonight in the Dharkaynleey district of Mogadishu.

There people, which include officers and residents at the home where wounded in the grenade attack due to the explosion. The suspected militants who carried out the attack escaped the scene.

The Halgan Media service desk reached out to numerous hospitals in Mogadishu regarding the state of the wounded victims. Multiple Mogadishu area hospitals where unwilling to comment.

Sources went further by saying a heavy presence of government forces was spotted in neighborhoods throughout the Dharkaynleey district following the grenade attack. No group has claimed responsibility for tonight’s incident.
