The border between Eritrea and the Republic of north Sudan has been reopened after months according to a statement released by Eritrea’s Minister of Information, Yemane Meskel.

The Minister of information was quoted as saying on his Twitter handle “ The two sides further discussed progress of Eritrea-Sudan bilateral ties. In this respect, the two sides agreed to open the border between the two countries as well as on the formation of Joint Committee to chart out the modalities and monitor the implementation of the agreement”

The border between Eritrea and the Sudan was closed earlier this year following unprecedented unrest in the Red Sea nation of Sudan, which forced former President Omar Al Bashir to resign. The opting of the border came after a delegation from the Transitional Military Council (TMC) meet with Eritrea’s president Isias Afwerki During an official trip to the capital Asmara.
