Ethiopian government under the leadership of the disgraced Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed continues to perpetuate human rights abuses and violate press freedoms.
In the wake of the week long unrest, which left over 80 people dead, hundreds wounded and scores of opposition figures detained, the Ethiopian government has begun a widespread cracking down on the press like never before.
The authorities in Addis Ababa raided and shut down the headquarters of the Oromo Media Network (OMN) in Addis Ababa whose founder (Jawar Mohamed) is currently under arbitrary detention.
The media house was raided on the grounds that it was allegedly fanning tensions and inciting violence according to a report aired on the BBC Afaan Oromo service.
The ruling Junta also threatened similar media outlets such as Asrat Tv, Dimtsi Weyane and Tigray Tv and confirmed there all being investigated under the same grounds as OMN.
