As of today, the  Sidama regional state has become the 10th state in the Ethiopian federation.

Sidama’s which are believed to be a community numbering roughly around three million are one of the 57 ethnic groups that inhabit Ethiopia’s southern most regional state, commonly referred to as SNNPR but that all changed today.

This latest recognition of Ethiopia’s new autonomous regional state, comes several months following a contentious referendum held late last year. 

Desta Lendamo has been chosen as the new president off the Sidama regional state. Following his appointel as president, a state council consisting of 190 members was formed.

The newly formed council unanimously approved the regional constitution according to the Amharic branch of DW news.
