Skirmishes erupted between Al Shabaab fighters within the past hour in the vicinity of the Beer Arjeej locality, situated near the town of Kurte in Bakool province, sources confirm.
Sources reveal two groups of Al Shabaab fighters traveling on foot began opening fire on each other after both sides mistakenly identified the opposite group of fighters as enemy combatants, presumably security forces.
The skirmishes escalated into a fire fight as both sides exchanged an intense barrage of small arms fire, which lasted for several minutes.
Local contacts reveal an “Amir” from Al Shabaab was killed in the friendly fire clashes. The “Amir” has been identified only by his first name “Yusuf” as of the moment.
