A series of killings overnight rocked the city of Wanlawayn in the volatile Lower Shabelle province of Somalia, sources reveal.

Local contacts reveal a total of five people where killed in and around Wanlawayn in a span of a few hours last night.

The first wave of killings occurred in the northern part of Wanlawayn, in which an individual was gunned down by two pistol wielding suspects in a hail of bullets.

Shortly afterwards those two individuals that carried out the gruesome killing where gunned down themselves by unknown assailants. There bodies where recovered later that night in the town of Baldul, situated 30 kilometers north of Wanlawayn.

In a similar incident that night, east of Wanlawayn two individuals where gunned down near the town of Yaaqdhuub in an area called Awbiti. It’s not clear who shot both of these men dead last night but it’s believed to be linked to the previous three killings that rocked Wanlawayn that same night.

The bodies of the individuals gunned down in Awbiti, where brought to Wanlawayn later that night by local police and have been identified according sources with intricate knowledge on the matter.

The city of Wanlawayn has been rocked by a rash killings in recent weeks fueled by violent feuds between rival clans in the area. The latest string of killings last night is bound to only exacerbate the situation on the ground between the warring sides.
