A series of clashes left nearly two dozen people dead in southern Ethiopia according to the Amharic branch of VOA news. The fighting engulfed the town of Burji situated in the volatile SNNPR region.
VOA Amharic services reported at least 20 where killed, with scores more wounded over claims the town between two ethnic groups. The clashes erupted between the two due to administrative rule as both sides where vying for ownership.
The federal government of Ethiopia led by Premier Abiy Ahmed and regional body overseeeing SNNPR are yet to comment on this latest string of violence. The SNNPR region is home to 57 ethnic groups, which are embroiled in territorial disputes and ethnic rivalries.
