A cargo plane transporting medical supplies on behest of the Somali federal government was barred from landing at an airstrip in Northern Somalia sources reveal.

Reliable sources have informed the Halgan Media service desk that a plane destined to drop off COVID19 supplies was denied clearance to land at the airstrip in the city of Badhan in Sanaag province. Its also been confirmed by sources with intricate knowledge on the matter that Puntland regional state security forces sealed off the runway prior to the attempted landing.

The troops blocked off the runway with military vehicles forcing the plane to divert. Its not clear where the plane was rerouted following the botched landing attempt. However its believed the plan may have landed in the city of Buuhoodle, which is south of Badhan.

As of yesterday the federal government of Somalia sent a shipment of much needed medical aid and COVID19 supplies to Buuhoodle. The delivery took place without any incidents, which completely differs from today’s chain of events in Badhan.

The city of Badhan situated in Eastern Sanaag remains under the rule of the autonomous Puntland regional state of Somalia. The relationship between authorities in Puntland and Mogadishu has been controversial to say the least.

The federal government of Somalia remains secluded to the capital Mogadishu as they struggle to quell and ever growing insurgency. This has diminished what little credibility or political power authorities in Mogadishu wield in the war torn country, henceforth the recent spat in Badhan with Puntland authorities.
