Unknown assailants hurled a grenade overnight at a police camp in the town of Burayu, situated in the volatile Oromo region of Ethiopia.
The subsequent blast from the grenade left nine police officers wounded. The identities of the culprits that carried out the attack remain unknown.
Ethiopian state media reported after the bomb blast security forces began door to door searchs in the area in a bid to capture the assailants but to no avail, not a single suspect was apprehended.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. The Oromo region of Ethiopia remains hot bed for lawlessness and militancy as armed groups, insurgents and paramilitaries run wild.
