Al Shabaab insurgents have abducted and executed a prominent regional MP in the volatile Middle Shabelle province of Somalia.
The MP identified as Mohamed Siyaad was a regional MP in Somalia’s autonomous Hirhsabelle regional state.
Mohamed was said to have been traveling in a vehicle with a group of civilains when he departed the city of Jowhar en route to the nearby city of Balcad.
While en route to Balcad his vehicle was overrun and seized by Al Shabaab insurgents in broad daylight.
Upon encountering the militants, the MP was dragged out of the car and abducted, than whisked away in the direction of the nearby Al Shabaab controlled town of Yaaqle.
The remaining civilian passengers on the bus where left unharmed. Shortly after the abduction, Al Shabaab claimed they’ve killed the MP in a statement published on the pro militant website dubbed Somali Memo.
More Questions, Than Answers.
The gruesome killing of MP Mohamed Siyaad has left more questions than answers and sparked widespread suspicion within the circles of Somalia’s political elite.
How did Al Shabaab get a hold of his itinerary ? Why was he travelling without guards ? These are just some of the questions that one might ask themselves in wake of this latest killing.
However its unlikely that we’ll ever know the answers to these questions as the conflict in Somalia continues to drag on year after year.
