A series of blasts rocked a military base housing foreign troops in the port city of Barawe in the Lower Shabelle province of Somalia according to sources.
Reliable sources that spoke with Halgan Media on condition of anonymity reveal an individual with a suicide vest rammed a vehicle packed with explosives into an AMISOM base in the city of Barawe near the local airport. Shortly afterwards a second suicide bomber rammed his vehicle into the same base according to sources.
Both blasts where followed by a barrage of gunfire from the Ugandan troops stationed at the base under the AMISOM mandate. The casualties from the double suicide bombing and the subsequent gunfire is not clear at the moment.
The Al Qaeda affiliated armed group Al Shabaab group claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement published online via the pro militant website dubbed Somali Memo.
AMISOM which is a Western backed coalition of African nations with troops in Somalia under the guise of the US led war on terror being waged in the country is yet to comment on the latest attack in Barawe.
