Jigjiga (Halgan Media) – Internet access has returned to the Ogaden, following a three week blackout which began on the night of June 29th.
The internet blackout was implemented by the Ethiopian regime following the assassination of a prominent Oromo musician, that sparked widespread protests and a nation wide revolt.
Halgan Media can confirm internet access has been restored in Godey, Wardheer and several other districts in the Ogaden.
Social media apps such as WhatsApp and Facebook are said to be functioning properly according to local contacts in the Ogaden that spoke with Halgan Media over the past hour.
Millions of people in Ethiopia where cut off from the outside world following the brazen decision by the fledgling government of Abiy Ahmed to cut internet access in the fragile Horn of Africa nation.
